With the arrival of autumn, the season of loungewear is upon us, and soft leggings, light jumpers and loose-fitting T-shirts all rise to the top of our wardrobes. For those looking for an eco-alternative to the water-intensive production of cotton loungewear, Swiss brand Hanro – a favourite of Nicole Kidman and Naomi Campbell – has designed a new Balance T-shirt made from the sustainable fabric Lyocell. The garment will be the centrepiece of a Hanro pop-up at Selfridges on Oxford Street running from September 16 to October 13.
The sustainability credentials of the Balance T-shirt (priced at £57 for the short-sleeved design and £67 for the long-sleeved version) come from its fabric, Lyocell, which is a type of rayon made from bleached wood pulp. It boasts breathability, softness and long-wear properties. The Balance T-shirt is available in white, a sky-blue called Tender Blue, a navy named Major Blue, and plum.
Other highlights from the Selfridges pop-up include the Luana long-sleeved pyjama set in soft grey (£174), the Touch Feeling crop top (£43.50) in muted sky blue, and the nude-tone silk/cashmere turtleneck top (£214) and matching leggings (£184), which – like many of Hanro’s pieces – would be equally wearable both inside and outside the house. Hanro, it seems, is the place to look for your update of eco-Alpine chic this autumn.
