Classic and neutral cashmere is all very well, but sometimes something a bit more uplifting is called for. Enter Wyse London, a line of cashmere knits that adds rainbows, stars and Lurex into the whimsical mix. The brand was launched by Marielle Wyse, a half-French former documentary maker, in 2014 after she spotted a gap in the market for quality, well-fitting cashmere that is also fun to wear. “I find that less is always more,” she says, “but everything I design has a detail, be it sequins, metallic leather or a pop of colour. I want it to be the jumper that makes people take a second look and ask where it’s from.”
This winter’s bold pieces include the charcoal Estelle jumper (£220), emblazoned with a huge red and pink star shimmering with Lurex; the Esme sweater (£210) with its striking lightning bolt shoulder design in watermelon pink and tangerine; and the navy Celine design (£210) with a rainbow zigzag across the chest. While colour is clearly central to Wyse’s designs, fit is also key, and to that end there are neatly fitted styles, as well as a slouchier boyfriend shape and roomy cardigans, which this season include the charcoal Flo (£250) with gold-sequined elbow patches.
The beauty of these pieces is their versatility; they can be worn every day with skinny or boyfriend jeans, or dressed up with heels for the evening. And for those who take their lounging seriously, there are track pants too – in both merino wool (£110) and cashmere (£220) – with stars or side stripes.
