“I’ve always been happy to use men’s shaving products when appropriate,” says Marisa Newman, founder of Mave, a line of sleek shaving products crafted specifically for women. “But it was when I was searching for a razor handle that I realised none of the luxury products available worked for the way women shave.” She therefore set out to create a range of products that would enhance performance, but also, with their streamlined, pure-white shapes, make chic and stylish bathroom accessories.
At the heart of the range is, of course, the razor ($75), a sculptural affair (inspired by Constantin Brâncuși’s sculpture Bird in Space) made from a durable resin with a 15cm-long handle for easier leg shaving. It also has a brilliant base that drains, thereby preventing blade rust. A matching cashmere-soft shaving brush ($75) also doubles as an objet d’art. “It’s an item most women have never used before. The products were all designed to elevate a woman’s shaving experience,” says Newman. “I formulated the skincare range myself too, using natural ingredients and essential oils.”
The Moisturizing Shave Cream ($25 for 75ml), for example, is scented with Mave’s signature spicy Fleur Cardamom scent and packed with healing shea butter, jojoba oil and magnolia extract to lend the skin a dewy glow, while the post-shave Body Oil ($30 for 50ml) adds a second layer of moisture and can be paired with the delightfully scented Perfume Oil ($38 for 9ml), which balances citrusy notes of lemon and sweet orange with hints of lavender, chamomile and cardamom.
