Judging a watch by its strap is the equivalent of judging a book by its cover. However, if the edition in question is an irrefutable classic, then a new handsome binding warrants attention. I’m particularly fond of the new Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Small Seconds (45.6mm, £7,100), created with Argentinian riding-bootmaker Casa Fagliano in celebration of the brands’ shared polo heritage. The top-stitched burgundy leather strap delightfully matches the sunray polished dial and makes for a striking composition with the steel case’s art deco-inspired lines. The 822/2 hand-wound movement allows for a slim 8.5mm case, which has a plain back ripe for engraving.
