As many who have recently passed through a European airport – especially during busy periods like Christmas – will verify, most commercial flights, even business class, can never fully swerve the stress that accompanies short-haul journeys. Flying first class on shorter routes is near impossible on many airlines, while the use of private jets adds far from insubstantial costs. But Signature Elite Class is now introducing the same airport amenities at two London airports, Gatwick and Luton, that it offers private jet customers at its luxury private terminals (FBOs) around the world.
With its Signature Flight Support service, passengers do not visit the airport terminal. Instead, they are driven past the departures madness to the serene, soundproof, luxe suite used by Signature’s private jet customers. Clearing immigration, security checks and baggage handling are taken care of on site by Signature staff while passengers relax in the lounge, and a private car waits to drive passengers to the plane according to whether they want to board first or last.
The convenience of the experience naturally appeals to travellers with a range of special circumstances – from privacy requirements to the needs of a medical condition, or just to avoid the hassle of checking in. At Gatwick, the cost for a single adult one way is £642, with each additional adult costing £288. Children, aged two to five, pay £144.
