Rajasthan welcomes a new boutique hotel in Deogahr

The Dev Shree’s seven rooms have gardens that give onto Ragho Sagar lake

Western Rajasthan lacks neither small hotels, nor luxury hotels; it’s the small, independent luxury contingent that can always stand to increase. So the arrival of Dev Shree(www.devshreedeogarh.com; £210), in Deogarh, is welcome news.

Its owners have form as master hoteliers, with the now shuttered Deogarh Mahal, a family thikana palace they turned into a hotel in the Aravalli Hills, not far from Dev Shree. Their new venture nods to tradition, with Nimbahera stonework (its intricate handcarving required two years’ work) and Ambaji marble floors, while the seven rooms give onto deep porticos and the gardens onto the shores of Ragho Sagar lake.
