For those hovering between France and Switzerland for their ski holiday this season, Hôtel des Dromonts (www.maisons-hotels-sibuet.com; from €200) may help solve the indecision for the true winter sports enthusiast. This is the only hotel in the French resort of Avoriaz, which is part of the vast Portes du Soleil ski area – and therefore linked to 12 other resorts either side of the Swiss-French border. While the 50-year-old, 34-room ski-in-ski-out hotel isn’t new, it might as well be now that hotelier Jocelyn Sibuet has got her alchemist’s hands on it. The seven-storey structure has a completely fresh look, as well as a new restaurant and a Pure Altitude spa. Unlike Sibuet’s sage and lavender Provençal hotels, Dromonts is popping with 1960s retro: oranges, browns, woods and a scarlet bar.
