Superyacht companies are breaking out of the traditional confines of the Mediterranean and Caribbean. Edmiston (www.edmiston.com) now has boats in the Java Sea, such as the 45.5m Princess Iolanthe (from €150,000 per week for 10, pictured),and has also seen a summer spike in New England bookings for Cape Cod, Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard.

Meanwhile, Burgess (www.burgessyachts.com) is chartering in wilder waters, such as the Tasman Sea, withHemisphere (from $260,000 per week for up to 12). The company’s explorer vessels are being geared up for changing demands, with new itineraries proving it’s no longer all about the pop of Cristal in Saint Tropez, but about bringing marine biologists on board and being the only boat for miles. Highlights include Southeast Alaska, where one can relax on the Tioli(from $55,000 per week for six) with that same Cristal, surrounded by the empty vistas and curious creatures of Warm Springs Bay.
