It’s been a long time coming, but the tower in Jakarta’s SCBD (Sudirman Central Business District) that has been designated home to the newest city hotel from Alila Hotels and Resorts is finally ready for its close-up. Its location alone  – next to the Stock Exchange, in a secure complex with some of the city’s best restaurants and nightlife, including outposts of Balinese beach playground Potato Head and Super Loco, Singapore’s hit Mexican bar-taqueria – is already a selling point for Alila SCBD (alilahotels.com; from $315).

But the 227-room hotel brings its own estimable roster of hangouts to the city too, with everything from a Jean-Georges Vongerichten-helmed burger joint to a satellite of London’s Sake no Hana. Expect all the requisite Alila bells and whistles, from the organic spa products to the deep-dive cultural itineraries and experiences (think exploring Batavia, Jakarta’s old town, or brocante hunting in Jalan Surabaya’s antiques market).
