The mountains of Oman made news two years ago with the opening of Alila Jabal Akhdar (www.alilahotels.com; from £290), the area’s first luxury hotel, which brought world-class spa therapies and fine dining to the sere 3,000m peaks of the country’s remote interior. Now a second luxury player is planting its flag; the 82 rooms and 33 villas at Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar (www.anantara.com), opening this summer, are spread across a promontory just 30 minutes from the ancient city of Nizwa. A full‑service spa, kids’ club and half-a-dozen dining venues will round out the impressively coddling offering. And while you might not want to leave, you’d be remiss not to venture off the property to experience Oman’s arrestingly beautiful landscapes and singular culture.
