Mobile phones are great for conference calls, but are let down by the inevitable inadequacies of their tiny loudspeakers. Japanese audio company Pioneer has departed from its usual turf with this oddly named, pocket-sized solution, the Rayz Rally, which does the same job as a boardroom table conference hub by simply plugging into an iPhone – it has the requisite Lighting connector.
This incredibly useful little device has its own conference-tuned microphone, so the other end of your con-call will never know you and your colleagues are sitting around a humble iPhone. New features and updates are automatically downloaded through the companion app. Rayz Rally also works in a car. I suppose you could use it on a train too, although beware of inciting the wrath of other passengers. The clever little thing can also act as an external speaker. You wouldn’t want to listen to Beethoven on it, but it’s fine for streaming Radio 4 from your phone.
