Back in the mid-1990s Murray Pearlstein, the venerable owner of clothing store Louis Boston, dubbed the alpaca button-knit by Inis Meáin the “Pub Jacket”. Now there’s an updated version for summer – called, pithily, the “New Pub Jacket” – in knitted linen (£300) for a more shirt-like effect, and available in solids and Donegal mixed colours. It has split sides, rather like shirt tails, but still works nicely as light outerwear (and as such the original was years ahead of the current trend).
