Radical Skincare is a line of beauty products that founder Liz Edlich created for herself and her sister, Rachel, until, as she says, “the perfect storm of everybody loving it caused us to start selling it”. Liz was beginning to notice wrinkles, while Rachel had rosacea, so they wanted to create a range that would help them both. They had a head start as their father, Dr Richard Edlich, was a plastic surgeon. “He helped us find the best researchers,” says Liz. “What I wanted to do was to seek out effective anti-ageing products for sensitive skins.
“We knew that antioxidants, which deal with skin-aging free radicals, can be found in lots of fruits, so we looked at ways of extracting that power,” says Liz. “Our scientists came up with Trylacel technology, which uses antioxidants such as acai extract, repairing anti-ageing actives such as tetrapeptides, and skin-soothing ingredients such as camomile.” The sisters started using the formulations themselves. Rachel’s rosacea cleared up completely after a short time, while Liz’s friends remarked on how well she looked. They developed a collection of six products – the Hydrating Cleanser (£30), Age-Defying Exfoliating Pads (£65), Peptide Infused Antioxidant Serum (£125), Anti-Aging Restorative Moisture (£100), Eye Revive Crème (£80) and Firming Neck and Décolleté Gel (£80).
Liz then tried selling it to Barney’s, but was rejected by the beauty buyer. However, she left the products with her and two weeks later received a call saying, “I’ve got to stock it – I’ve never had so many compliments on my skin.” Since then, Harrods and Space NK have started selling it and a seventh product – Replenishing Extreme Moisture (£100), exclusive to Space NK – has been added.
