Krug is a king of champagnes that is perfectly matched in meticulousness and class by menswear brand Berluti. Both create products that anyone would be happy to find under the tree at Christmas, and their new collaboration, Berluti pour Krug – two smart, holdall-style bags complete with champagne – is definitely worthy of note.
Essentially, Short Journey (£3,100) and Long Journey (£3,800) are fancy bags with similarly fancy champagne inside, but they have an attractive historic integrity. The dark cherry patina of the leather was inspired by the notebook that Joseph Krug, founder of the venerated house, used to keep his vintner’s notes in, while the shapes and cut are based on Berluti’s Un Jour briefcase. Both designs have been styled to accommodate the Krug bottle and matching glasses, and each comes in a numbered edition of 100.
The smaller of the two bags has three removable compartments and comes with a bottle of Krug Grande Cuvée and two Joseph glasses in a flannel pouch marked “Berluti pour Krug”. Alternatively, it is also designed to house a pair of Berluti shoes and a shoe care kit. The larger model has six removable compartments and comes with a bottle of Krug Grande Cuvée and another of Krug Rosé, plus four Joseph glasses. Thanks to its size, it can accommodate three pairs of Berluti shoes.
Both bags feature an interior construction lined with grigio topo microfibre, exterior zip pockets with a patinated Venezia leather zip-pull, and a bag charm in the shape of the classic Krug bottle.
