J Crew has launched a limited-edition capsule collection in support of Britain’s declining bee population. Fifty per cent of the sale price from a pocket square and T-shirt range, with handpainted designs by watercolourist Marcel George, will benefit Buglife, a charity dedicated to conserving 39,000 native invertebrates. Inspired by a hive at London’s Horniman Museum, George reimagined buff-tailed bumblebees, honeybees and solitary bees with multicoloured wings, buzzing around buttercups, bluebells and cornflowers.

“I used to think bees were mostly yellow and black,” he says, “but when I started my research I discovered there was a great deal of subtlety and complexity in their colouration.” Buglife’s projects include creating wildflower meadows and rooftop gardens at industrial sites across the UK to encourage pollinators like bees to flourish.
