For the 20th anniversary of How To Spend It, we have turned over a whole issue to raising funds for Save the Children, by auctioning every pictured item in a sale hosted by Christie’s. For this issue’s Eclectibles pages we’ve presented an assortment of must-haves – for her, for him and for the home. For the latter, we have selected nine items that are every bit as stylish as they are practical.
Those with an affinity for avant-garde or offbeat design might like Roche Bobois’ raspberry sideboard (bids from £2,800, second picture), by Parisian artist René Bouchara, with doors that swivel upwards – or Ligne Roset’s deep-green velvet-finished asymmetrical armchair (bids from £1,000, third picture). For a pop of colour, seek out either De Le Cuona’s berry-hued cashmere blanket (bids from £550, fourth picture) or fashion designer Jonathan Saunders’ collaboration with The Rug Company (bids from £1,200, fifth picture), a Tibetan wool rug in leafy green and teal that’s a classic example of Saunders’ love of print and vibrant colour. Or how about some put-your-feet-up chic? Natuzzi’s leather recliner (bids from £1,000, sixth picture), with both foot and headrest, is available in a wide choice of eclectic colours, while Loewe’s petite leather cushion (bids from £900, seventh picture) is finished with palladium studs.
For grace and elegance expressed in wood, there’s Giorgetti’s walnut Myo stand (bids from £900, eighth picture) and FBC London’s Oswald side table (bids from £1,800, first picture) crafted from a combination of oak with brass and solid cast bronze. Or for something a little more delicate, flick on Ochre’s hand-blown table lamp in sea-blue glass (bids from £550, ninth picture) with a chic asymmetrical shade.
How To Spend It is auctioning these items in aid of Save the Children in an online sale hosted by Christie’s – now live and ending on Thursday December 11. Bidding starts from £550 at www.christies.com/htsi. For more information, visit our How To Give It page.
