Marc Newson is one of the most influential designers of his generation. From concept jets and cars to product design, jewellery and furniture, he has collaborated with the world’s biggest brands and featured in Time magazine’s Most Influential People list. Now, his limited edition furniture will go on view at the Gagosian New York from January 17 until February 20 in the first exhibition of his new furniture in over a decade.
The collection of works (priced from $85,000 to $400,000) showcase the designer’s current preference in materials, including cast glass, Murrina glass and cloisonné enamel such as a Cloisonné Desk 1.1 in bold shades of cerulean blue. There is also a Cloisonné Chair from 2017 in yellow, blue and red enamel with a copper trim that is as much art installation as furniture, complemented by a Cloisonné Chair in white enamel embellished with magnolia flowers.
The sinuous Cloisonné Lounge is a contemporary take on the traditional chaise-longue, finished in white with a Marc Newson-designed pattern, or in black with blossom detail, while simplicity informs Newson’s Cast Glass Chair, which is reduced to a simple arc in transparent charcoal green, blue, red, orange, violet and red.
