Auction of 30 chairs painted by designers, artists and celebrities

All funds raised will help combat youth HIV in South Africa

Thirty hand-painted and upholstered chairs created by a group of star designers, artists and celebrities will be auctioned at Bonhams this month to help combat the youth HIV epidemic in South Africa, where there are more than 1,000 new HIV infections each week among adolescents.

The striking collection includes designs from Tricia Guild, whose seat is covered in a trademark monochrome botanical print; Viscountess Weymouth, celebrating the 50th anniversary of Longleat with a regal lion motif; and Arsenal FC (pictured), whose upholstery incorporates shirts autographed by the team.

All funds will benefit Chiva Africa, a charity that sends volunteer doctors, nurses and dieticians to train government workers at clinics for children and teenagers throughout South Africa. Tickets are available for the auction on March 15 in London, but online bidding is open now.
