A classic chair is reinvented for charity

Nineteen versions of this specially embellished chair will be auctioned

Metal fringing, wool bouclé, Missoni knits and neon-pink plastic are among the unlikely embellishments adorning Arne Jacobsen’s iconic Swan Chair throughout October – and it’s all in aid of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Commissioned by the New York furniture showroom Suite, the creative reincarnations of the chair come courtesy of 19 designers – Holly Fulton (first picture), Kelly Hoppen (second picture), Jonathan Adler and Karim Rashid among them – and will be auctioned online by Charitybuzz, beginning on Saturday October 1.

Last year, Suite’s inaugural project for the BCRF – one-off cushions from names such as Kit Kemp and Allegra Hicks – raised more than $12,000; this year, Suite hopes to donate twice as much to the Foundation’s research, which extends to 28 countries and involves more than 170 scientists.
