Who can argue with the statement that futuristic florals in sunshine yellow or perky pink add an instant injection of much-needed summer colour? And so to a confluence of Gianvito Rossi’s architectural silhouettes and Mary Katrantzou’s ebullient patterns – a new designer shoe collaboration that launches at Harvey Nichols this week. Katrantzou’s first full footwear collection, created to accompany her ready-to-wear creations, also marks a departure for Rossi, who is widely regarded as the master of minimalism.
Harvey Nichols, which is clearly stepping up its shoe offering, offers five styles, including pointed pumps with 10cm high heels, such as the Yellow Bird classic court (£455, first picture) and lace-up boots, including the elevated Electra cut out (£455, second picture), all fashioned in silk-satin materials. Although the shoes have the same striking patterns and prints that grace Katrantzou’s clothing, the designs have been adapted and resized to better suit footwear.
“Mary Katrantzou’s mesmerising prints on Gianvito’s highly coveted shoes prove a match made in heaven,” says Jasmin Sanya, Harvey Nichols women’s shoe buyer. They will sit alongside the Gianvito Rossi mainline in Harvey Nichols, Knightsbridge, and will also be available online via the Harvey Nichols website.
And it looks as though this collaboration has legs. During the recent ready-to-wear fashion shows, Rossi and Katrantzou unveiled a second season of offerings, which will be available this autumn.
