From so-called “vegan” leather to shoes made with recycled materials, brands are going green with their footwear this season. French firm Veja – which has put sustainable sneakers on feet around the world – recently released a “post-petroleum” running shoe, made from 53 per cent bio-based and recycled materials. Stella McCartney has also launched a second iteration of its vegan Stan Smith trainers – which sold out in less than a week the first time around – made from recycled polyester and coming with white and rainbow-coloured laces. There’s also Yatay’s collection of sleek low- and high-top sneakers, made with recycled fabric and bio-resins, and a collection of shoes by Grenson, ranging from brogues to boots, all made with recyclable microfibre uppers that are designed to mimic cowhide.
