Barcelona-based brand M2Malletier, known for its sleek, metal-handled leather handbags, is launching a customisable service on July 12. Colombian co-founders Melissa Losada and Marcela Velez have been inspired by Japanese architect Tadao Ando and artist Georges Rousse for their new bespoke collection, which is available in London at Alex Eagle.
Two top-handled designs are included in the range and feature a bold, spherical hardstone clasp, influenced by Rousse’s optical-illusion art, in place of the brand’s signature metal bar. The Marie-Laure style is a classic slant-sided rectangle, while the Françoise has a bold, semicircular shape.
The clasps are available in three very distinctive stones – a spotty Dalmatian jasper, a darker Picasso jasper and a mottled-finish amazonite. Customers can also choose from different-coloured leathers and exotic skins: the most subdued is a saffiano leather in pale grey, ivory or black, and the plushest is a black alligator. Both styles are available with a gold- or silver-coloured metal frame.
Each piece is made in a family-run Spanish factory and takes four to six weeks to produce. Prices range from €2,160 to €5,820.
