Globe-traversing model and artist Silje Vallevik knows a thing or two about stylish dressing on the go; it’s what inspired the Norwegian-born, London-based painter-turned-designer to launch a fashion brand online in 2017. The result is Valle+Vik, a range of silk dresses that travel well and look just as good on the beach as at a gallery opening, fusing flattering shapes with vibrant shades and Vallevik’s own prints.
Take the Centuria (£435), for example; the on-trend midi-length dress has a vintage-feel button front and flounce sleeves, and comes in two rich prints – a dense floral affair in gold and navy, and Majestetisk Blue, which is inspired, like all of Valle+Vik’s prints, by folk art. The versatile, long-sleeved Darling style (“as the name implies, this one will be the darling of your wardrobe”), meanwhile, comes in both a midi (from £395) and a more daring mini (£355) version, in prints such as the rich-emerald Ville Blomst Green.
The Long Flirt is a button-down shirt dress (from £385) with a laidback everyday vibe in a midnight-blue star-scattered print; and The Prim One (from £395) comes in a William Morris-eque floral, as well as a bolder lace-like yellow – and has a not-so-prim-after-all split up the side. Eye-catching patterns might be Vallevik’s forte, but she also knows the power of simple, statement-making shapes in one stunning shade. Cue the long, draping dress (from £395) she calls The Cannes Do; available in a host of colours, from black to sunshine yellow, its low back and silk-satin-crepe bias cut lend a glamorous French Riviera feel while still maintaining supreme suitcase-friendliness.
