Luxury collaborations are the current vogue, but one of the most interesting teams is London fragrance queen Lyn Harris and Laura Vinroot Poole, owner of North Carolina fashion boutique Capitol, for whom the perfumer has created A Flower – her first-ever bespoke scent for a store.
Only 40 bottles of the limited edition fragrance will be produced ($695, available from Saturday September 1) in modern hand-blown blue glass, serving as mementos of the Charlotte-based emporium’s 20th anniversary. In addition to the artisanal bottle, each perfume will be presented with a travel-size factory bottle, plus two pocketbook-sized atomisers in a felt case, a miniature funnel and a pipette dropper.
Vinroot Poole is a power player in fashion and design, known for spotting emerging talent: she was an early proponent of jeweller Irene Neuwirth and of brands such as Of Rare Origin, Olympia Le-Tan and Rebecca de Ravenel. Her 560sq m store is now a global fashion destination for those in the know – many drawn by her carefully curated selection of bold colours and strong silhouettes by designers such as Giambattista Valli, Erdem and Balenciaga. Capitol also stocks candles and accessories, but the store has never experimented with fragrance before – which is why Vinroot Poole sought out one of the world’s best makers to create a subtle celebratory scent.
A Flower is Harris’ olfactory take on summers in the South: berries, flowers, vanilla bourbon, ylang-ylang, white musk and citrus notes conjure a sophisticated scent, designed to appeal to the store’s discerning clientele.
