The brilliant-blue Aegean Sea feels just a click away on landing at Aesthet, an online wonderland of Greekclothing and accessories. No one does strappy summer sandals and bohemian beach bags like Greek designers, and Alexandra Zakka, the Athens-based founder and CEO of Aesthet, knows exactly what her Med-loving clientele craves. She offers both utilitarian basics – think swimwear and chic cover-ups – and statement-making dresses for seamless progressions from beach to bar. Among the standout Greek makers she stocks are Ancient Kallos, whose white blouses (from €208) and dresses (from €243) employ intricate embroidery and handmade tassels; and Zeus+Dione, designers of light, gold, ankle-skimming silk dresses (€725). Hand-sewn shoulder bags (€300) by Thoi, embellished with evil-eye beads, or woven-strapped leather numbers (from €624) by Grace Atelier de Luxe are both playful and practical for a night spent under the stars.
There is, of course, a dedicated and robust sandal section. Choose from wedges, solid platforms or crazy, colourful flats (from €225) by Elina Linardaki that are studded with coins, pom-poms and macramé touches. For day-to-day wear, Ancient Greek Sandals’ now almost classic Alethea model (€150) is available in rose gold and silver.
But it is the jewellery – a lustrous mix of fine and faux pieces – that is the real showstopper, from a stunningly simple, gold Avra Eye bangle (€2,350) by Marianna Goulandris, embellished with delicate diamonds and deep-green tsavorite stones, to a Grand Jaune eye necklace (€725) by Lito in transfixing yellow enamel. And no island-bound look would be complete without a straw hat – Aesthet’s handpainted Ibo-Maraca Eye of God Panama (€340) with a jaunty horsehair band is a wearable work of art.
