A new pop-up, opening today at Selfridges, sees the launch of French fashion house Vionnet’s limited edition “Eco Surf Capsule Collection” in collaboration with YBA Marc Quinn. The shop in shop, open until June 26, will juxtapose Goga Ashkenazi’s floaty, summery pieces with pictures of Quinn’s 3D artworks that visitors can make 3D with augmented reality screens.
Vionnet’s fashion line was inspired by Quinn’s Raft series, which delves into the increasing problem of plastic pollution by capturing the accidental beauty of non-biodegradable waste. Vionnet’s cool designs – from drawstring silk/satin dresses (£1,605) to kimono-esque towelling (£870) or shell (£730) coats, and from cropped silk trousers (£385) to fleece hoodies (£380) – tap into this idea and are created from sustainable fabrics featuring original Marc Quinn prints showing a colourful collection of plastic bag waste, or the VMQ logo.
Fifty per cent of the profits from each sale will go to Parley for the Oceans, a global organisation addressing pollution in the world’s oceans through beach clean-ups, education and communication programmes, marine wildlife conservation projects and research initiatives.
