The brainchild of former fashion executives Martha Fish (Calvin Klein and Coach) and Laura Gelfand (Ralph Lauren and Figue), Le Lion is a new womenswear label offering sweaters and accessories that give a quirky, cool twist to monogramming. The pair take chic cardigans, crewnecks (from $495), mittens and hats (from $195) in jewel-coloured Italian superfine wool – and personalise them with sketches in silk thread and minute sequins, all hand-embroidered in New York.

After the client has selected an item – perhaps the petite, slightly cropped cardigan or a roomier funnel-neck pullover – and a vibrant colour (Amaranth Magenta, Argent Charcoal, Azure Blue and Murrey Purple are just a few of the saturated hues on offer, as well as more neutral greys and blacks), the personalisation process begins. Options include a traditional two- or three-letter monogram or one of the 12 zodiac constellations, embroidered in twinkling thread within the brand’s signature celestial heraldry crest. A particularly fun offering is the pet “monogram”, a hand-stitched image of the client’s pooch or kitty in place of the crest.
