Macarons may last little more than a moment in the mouth, but thanks to Ladurée’s personalisation service, the mini meringue marvels can now remain long in the memory. Using a special edible ink, the French pâtisserie will inscribe any message, space permitting, on its macarons. Because the edible ink is dark, Ladurée recommends using it with lighter-coloured macarons, such as vanilla, orange blossom, rose, pistachio or caramel, although it can still be requested on varieties such as chocolate and blackcurrant violet. Orders take two to three days to complete, and can be placed in store or over the phone, and for a final flourish, the ribbon on the packaging can also be personalised. £2.85 each; minimum order of 20, Ladurée, 1 The Market, Covent Garden, London WC2 (020-7240 0706; laduree.fr). Harrods, 87-135 Brompton Road, London SW1 (020-7730 1234; harrods.com). IAN SHINE

Anya Hindmarch’s Build a Bag service (in-store and online) starts with a plain, simple bucket bag in eight shades of light, soft, strong leather; inside is a detachable pocket, which can be monogrammed, and one or two handles can be added, plus a variety of decorative straps, key rings, fobs and stickers. Hindmarch insists that even when it comes to classically made bags, you can still be irreverent. “It’s fun to mess up beautiful simplicity,” she says. “It makes a seriously made piece feel lighthearted.” From £595, anyahindmarch.com. AVRIL GROOM
