Sometimes only a silver honey spoon or passport holder embossed with a favourite gun dog will do. That’s the thinking behind the bespoke crackers from William & Son – which might be the ultimate festive gift for those who have everything. This new offering allows customers to create personalised Christmas crackers containing any William & Son goodies, from a fine fountain pen to a piece of bespoke jewellery or silverware.

“The client will come in and meet our jewellery designer and might select a stone from our in-store gem bar,” explains founder William Asprey. “Once the design has been approved, the workshops will start crafting the precious one-off gifts for the crackers, which might contain something different for every person around the table.” This could mean a diamond art-deco-inspired bracelet or a showstopping emerald choker (both price on request).

For more modest tables, a bespoke cracker could include a William & Son silk pocket square (from £45), a monogrammed leather card holder (from £90), a leather manicure set (from £175) or embossed emerald green envelope purse (from £270). And as William & Son is a royal warrant holder for silversmiths and goldsmiths, contents could include a silver and mother-of-pearl caviar knife (£130) or a pair of cufflinks (from £445) featuring a family crest or favourite gemstone.

The crackers themselves come in blue or red foil with satin and metallic gold ribbons. And whether it’s a pink sapphire sautoir (price on request) or a simple spinning top (from £395) in engraved silver and wood, the spirit of Christmas still remains. “We won’t forget the joke and the paper hat. These might be ultra-luxury crackers but we can’t leave out the essentials.”
