This season’s catwalks were a joyous riot of colour and print. Such a head-to-toe look might be a step too far for many, but a bag popping with these hues could be a perfect addition to a spring outfit. As such, Liberty London’s fabulously versatile new Rainbow collection is not to be missed – a strictly limited edition line that launches in store and online on March 10, and will not be repeated.
Liberty launched its accessories collection in 2013, with a reworking of its classic 1902 art nouveau Ianthe print, Iphis. This season the distinctive geometric floral design has been coloured with a soft-yet-bright rainbow wash on strong cotton canvas and used across a range of bags – from a large shopper, the Marlborough tote (£495), to a rectangular shoulder bag, the Maddox crossbody (£350), and a small clutch pouch (£150) – plus a collection of smaller accessories such as a round coin purse (£95) and a keyring (£85). All are trimmed with bold, lustrous leather.
“We were working on a daydreamy, 1970s-inspired theme for summer with our scarves,” says design director James Millar. “They featured a rainbow, so the bags are a natural development. We aimed for slightly sun-bleached colours and metallic leathers that seem to reflect sunlight.”
The range may be inspired by a rainbow, but it is an instant hit of sunshine.
