When Bulgari ran a jewellery and accessories pop-up at Harrods two years ago it was such a success that both sides vowed to do it again. This time around the focus is on bags – one of them exclusive to the Knightsbridge store – in a pop-up that runs from February 22 until June 1.
Reflecting details from Bulgari’s watch and jewellery collections, the bags include new creations featuring the Serpenti motif – a snakehead that has been synonymous with the brand since the 1960s. Appearing on enamelled, gem-set clasps – in black or white on gold plate and with gleaming green malachite eyes – the design is found on the Scaglie version of the Serpenti Forever (from £1,520), a calfskin bag with a hand-quilted, snakeskin-effect finish that is exclusive to Harrods. The Scaglie comes in three sizes, all with a snake chain (the smallest one also has a leather handle), and the pop-up is offering an exclusive white agate version.
Other bags available include the Serpenti Viper (£2,480), which has a special “pixel python” finish where every scale is handpainted in colours to complement the natural python skin. In this case the handpainting is in soft green ivy tourmaline, black, white and deep brown, while the famous clasp is in black enamel on gold plate with green malachite push buttons. Another model, the Serpenti Forever (£2,260), features hexagonal black onyx studs and comes in green ivy tourmaline, pink spinel and other gemstone colours. It has both a handle and a removable chain.
The Serpenti theme will also make an appearance on jewellery, with standout pieces including a rose-gold sautoir (£9,000) with fretwork snakeheads and malachite hexagons, and rose-gold snakehead earrings (£4,130) with malachite eyes and diamonds.
