Ultra-luxe linens by Frette with added custom appeal

From bespoke embroidered sheets to personalised pyjamas

The name Frette has been synonymous with luxury for over 150 years; the venerable Italian maker has provided linens for the royal families of Europe, for Claridge’s, The Ritz and the dining car of the opulent Orient Express – and even for the altar at St Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican. Now it has launched a bespoke service that is open to all, using exceptional fabrics and embellishments that range from macramé and tulle lace to intricate embroideries.

Commissions begin with a consultation with a Bespoke Frette specialist – at either the Milan flagship or New York’s Madison Avenue location, or by phone or email. (From September, the service will also be available at the new London flagship on South Audley Street.) Customers can experiment with Frette’s wide range of custom fabrics and patterns to create their own bedding (price on request, examples in first picture), table linens ($45-$4,000), throws ($850-$6,000) – and even pyjamas (from $300, second picture) and robes (from $290) – to match interior schemes.

Bed linens are among the most sought-after orders. Sheets, pillowcases, duvet covers ($1,200-$1,400), blankets ($1,200-$8,000) and shams ($150-$1,200) are available in traditional white and grey palettes, or in brighter colours from the range of 24 options (examples in third picture). There are hundreds of embroideries on offer – from geometric patterns and floral motifs to crests and monogramming in a range of traditional and more contemporary fonts. And for something truly unique, Frette’s artisans can design original artwork; send them an image and they will interpret it into an individual pattern.

Custom crisp cotton pyjamas, silky nightgowns and cashmere robes are the perfect complement to personalised bedding. There are tablecloths too, with matching placemats and napkins, and the ranges for yachts (fourth picture) are popular: bedding in nautical blue, with matching personalised robes ($350-$750) and wash bags. Cashmere blankets, meanwhile, can be ordered in varying weights, with a choice of hundreds of trim colours. These tailor-made projects can be realised in between 28 and 60 days. Sweet dreams await…
