Online watch platform Hodinkee is well known for its limited edition collaborations, and its latest, launched yesterday, sees it join forces with venerable Swiss maker IWC Schaffhausen – marking the first time the two brands have united on such a project.
The IWC Pilot’s Watch Mark XVIII Edition “Hodinkee” ($6,400) takes its design cues from IWC’s classic 1948 Mark II Pilot’s Watch and its 3705 Fliegerchronograph from 1994, culminating in a clean-lined yet “tough as nails” design. Only 500 editions of the model will be released.
The dial of the timepiece echoes the legible and streamlined aesthetic that set the original Mark II apart, and features white Arabic numerals with stick indexes at three, six and nine o’clock, with a simple arrow at 12 o’clock (echoing traditional pilot’s watches). The olive-green embossed-calfskin strap adds to the streamlined look, as does a crown, buckle and case that are all rendered in matte-black Ceratanium® (an alloy with the toughness of titanium and the scratch-resistant properties of ceramic).
Powered by an automatic 35100-calibre movement, the watch is extremely precise and offers a 42-hour power reserve. Available at Hodinkee online and through select IWC Schaffhausen boutiques.
