Liberty is banishing the winter blues with a multicoloured homage to bowerbirds, which famously deck out their nests with brightly coloured objects. This vibrant theme will run throughout the emporium until March 5, and will feature a month-long jewellery pop-up by Pebble London, showcasing 100 unique designs, from February 5.
Exuberant use of colour and natural materials is the forte of Pebble London’s founder, Peter Adler. In addition to semiprecious stones, wood, shell, crystal and wool also feature, most of which Adler has sourced on his travels to Africa and Asia. Adler has previously collaborated with Liberty and worked with a roll-call of names including Emilio Pucci, Alexander McQueen, Tom Ford, Donna Karan and Etro.
While earrings, cuffs and pendants will be available, it’s the necklaces (from £395) that are the most eye-catching, such as the zingy orange or eye-popping pink wool pompom designs. Somewhat more muted in colour but no less statement-making is a gold Indian wedding necklace (£575) fashioned from faceted glass cabochons punctuated with red accents. Adler’s shell expertise shines through in a chic braided rope necklace (£1,620) that shimmers with various-sized mother-of-pearl.
The pop-up also includes several minimalist pieces where Adler lets tribal forms (£1,120) do the talking. Other highlights include a diamond silhouette bangle (£220) and a sculptural rectangular cut-out ring in hammered gold-plated brass (price on request).
