It’s the no-frills functionality of the new Patek Philippe Calatrava 6006G (£23,440) that makes it so appealing. With no batons or markings, just graphic Arabic numerals, it’s a larger (39mm) update of a previously discontinued model, the 6000. It keeps the quirky placement of the second counter at 4/5 o’clock, but a new red-arrow-headed hand indicates the date, enhancing the impression of an almost Bauhausian starkness. New skeletonised hands, meanwhile, subtly update the ebony and silver dial, cased in 18ct white gold with a highly polished bezel.
