I’d seen the Drive de Cartier Extra-Flat at this year’s Geneva watch fair (SIHH), but it wasn’t until styling a recent fashion shoot that I realised how damn classy it is. My brief called for unobtrusive classic cool with a contemporary accent: the Extra-Flat was the perfect, urbane accessory for the role. The new case, with no complications to bulk it out or interfere with the dial layout, is a mere 6.6mm thick – 40 per cent thinner than the rest of collection – and curves nicely around the wrist from the lugs. The cushion shape is pleasingly streamlined, and the highly polished surface of the gently defined bezel looks like molten metal. I loved the rose-gold version (£12,500), but am really tempted by the limited production white-gold one (£13,400) with grey croc strap too.
