I love the bike I bought from Bicycle Store in Paris. I had it custom made, in matte black, with a fluorescent-orange chain. There are no markings on it and it is composed of elements from different models of bicycle. I wanted it to look like a shadow. Price on request; Boulevard du Temple 17, 75003 Paris (bicyclestore.fr).

I’m very attached to my Bristol bike by Pelago. It has a Brooks leather saddle and a Dutch upright-style frame, but it’s very fast – which is unusual for this design. It has just three gears and its weight is perfect for me. €675; pelagobicycles.com.

Cycling is like breathing to me; I go everywhere by bike. I have four: an Omnium Cargo that is useful for carrying heavy things to the studio; a Cannondale sports bike that is great for covering long distances; a folding Brompton; and an old one for leaving at the airport when I go overseas. Brompton, from £845; brompton.com. Cannondale Quick 1, €1,249; cannondale.com. Omnium Cargo, DKr17,499 (about £2,045); omniumcargo.dk.

I adore my S2L Brompton bike, which I have used every day since I bought it. It’s fast and fun. I also gave my eldest son an Islabike Beinn 20 for a recent birthday. These bikes are extremely well made with the right size components, so they’re easy for children to ride – hopefully he’ll love being out on his. S2L Brompton, from £975; brompton.com. Islabike Beinn 20, from £389.99; islabikes.co.uk.

I bought a wonderful Cannondale racing bicycle from this great shop in Sorrento called Reaction Retail, not far from where I live. I am not the fittest of cyclists but this is a serious road bike, from a very serious American brand. I cycle regularly with a group of locals on the Amalfitana road. I’m also eyeing a Triumph motorcycle, to go zooming up and down the Costiera Amalfitana. I think it will have to be a vintage one – they’re super-classic; the most classic bike there is. Cannondale racing bicycle, from £649.99; Viale Nizza 58, 80067 Sorrento (sorrentobike.com). Triumph, triumph.co.uk.

My Brompton bike is incredibly flexible and I ride it everywhere in London, including to my studio every day. I like the mechanical set up of this bike and the fact that it’s made in England. I bring it on planes, trains, and even in the back of taxis, and the seat extension allows me to take a child to school on the back. From £845; brompton.co.uk.

Transport on two wheels is important to me – although it’s about the sense of freedom as much as the bikes. I was the first in London to buy an eco‑friendly scooter, a Vectrix; it’s free to park in the West End and it’s also good for society. From €4,900; vectrix.com.
