At Goodwood’s annual Revival festival in September, the Spitfires are the star attraction of the airfield, their flights drawing gasps from the onlookers. For a while now, it has been possible to fly in one of these magnificent second-world-war machines, but now The Lanesborough is joining forces with the Sussex estate to offer the adrenaline-fuelled experience for its guests (€10,035, about £8,850, for two).
The 20-minute flight taking off from Goodwood’s grassy runway will thunder at speeds of up to 300mph over the Sussex countryside – the airspace that witnessed the Spitfires play a crucial role in the Battle of Britain.
Hear the roar of the 1,500hp Rolls-Royce Merlin engines, feel the power that made these beasts Britain’s most famous fighter aircraft, and, for the strong of stomach, ask for the aero-acrobatics to be taken full throttle.
The Lanesborough is offering the adventure from April 1 to November 10 (only available Tuesdays-Thursdays). After a night at the hotel, guests will be driven to Goodwood in Mercedes S-Class style before enjoying lunch at The Kennels. When you’re back on terra firma you’ll receive a 360-degree video of the experience.
