In November, the first glimmerings of the austral summer splinter the dark skies of Antarctica, with the cruise season opening up fully in December. New this year is the collaboration between private-jet specialist Chapman Freeborn (www.chapman-freeborn.com), which flies you into either Punta Arenas in Chile or Ushuaia in Argentina, and Eyos Expeditions (www.eyos-expeditions.com). The boat Eyos charters is the refitted 72m, 12-guest Enigma XK – with a hull sturdy enough to punch through the ice floes and an Owner’s Suite commanding 180-degree polar vistas. Enigma XK also has a helipad for airborne adventuring, plus there’s a hair salon for when the winds are katabatic. Prices start at €250,000 per week for the yacht, plus expenses; as a guideline for the flight, a Gulfstream G550 charter from New York to the cruise launch point in Chile costs from €145,000.
