Riding a confluence of travel and modern art is Raffles’s new Istanbul hotel (www.raffles.com; from €600), which opened on September 1. It is located at the heart of the Zorlu Center, an emerging hub for fashion, food and the arts on the European shore in Besiktas, which overlooks the Bosphorus and Princes’ Islands. Not only does the hotel feature a formidable collection of contemporary Turkish paintings, sculpture, photography and video installations, but guests can also use the specialist concierge to navigate the city’s popping scene which, over the past few years, has shifted from heavily traditional to cutting-edge. The hotel is expecting to become a magnet for sympathetic souls, with the main lure being its rooftop pool, which at night morphs into a live music venue for dancing above the river that divides east from west.
