The whole Mekong region is enjoying a surge of interest right now, which is why Aqua Mekong (www.aquaexpeditions.com), setting sail in late September, is garnering such pre-launch attention. The 62.4m boat, sleeping just 40 (four-day cruise from $3,000 per person based on two sharing, excluding flights), will cruise the river as it winds through Vietnam and Cambodia, with ports of embarkation including My Tho, Phnom Penh and Siem Reap. The food on board will be overseen by Australian chef David Thompson (he won a Michelin star for his London restaurant Nahm and opened its namesake in Bangkok in 2010). Riverside scenery includes bamboo-stilt villages and wing-tipped pagodas.
