An urban sanctuary is open for business in Delhi

It boasts, among other things, that it has India’s largest pool

In Delhi this month, Oberoi tips the skyscraping city-hotel conceit on its head with a verdant, sprawling, nine-acre urban sanctuary. Oberoi Gurgaon (; from £275) presents National Capital Region visitors and citizens with a host of exclusives – its only cigar bar, its largest pool (actually, India’s largest), a wing allocated to a new private members’ club and a gallery of dining options, including a massive delicatessen (to get one’s tomme de grand-mère or culatello fix). This on top of 202 rooms and suites that overlook a central courtyard complete with reflection pool, outdoor swimming pool and a maze garden.
