Somewhere that will be getting busier from June 6 is Victoria Falls in Zambia, as Kenya Airways (www.kenya-airways.com) launches a route from Nairobi to Livingston airport. The route connects with the London-Nairobi overnight flight (London-Livingston, from £838), offering yet another reason to travel to the African continent, where hotels, lodges and camps are springing up in equal measure to the mines, pipelines and dams. Also opening in June is the Mara Plains Camp (www.greatplainsconservation.com; $975 per adult, full board; shown in picture) in Kenya’s big-cat predator country, just across from the Masai Mara National Park in the 30,000-acre Olare Motorogi Conservancy. Here a two-suite tent will set the bar for family safaris. Features include roll-up canvas sides, wooden platforms and decks, beds for two adults and up to three children.
