An Aspen old charmer gets a glamorous facelift

Hotel Jerome’s interiors return to their Wild West roots

One hotel everyone loves is Hotel Jerome (; from $670) in Aspen, which has recently reopened following a multimillion-dollar renovation. Designer Todd-Avery Lenahan has added cashmere curtains and leather bed frames to all 93 rooms, replacing the Victorian gilt that had crept in and corrupted the location’s Wild West roots. When it first opened in 1889, electricity and running water were still novelties. More recently, its bar was a haunt of the late Hunter S Thompson – although what the father of gonzo would have to say about the new Auberge Spa is unknown.
