Julie de Libran “In SoHo you can walk to so many different places and access such a mix of independent stores. I love 45R, a Japanese store with beautiful fabrics where they mix things like amazing Japanese denim with vintage American cowboy boots. I go to Opening Ceremony’s boutique to see its latest inspiration, and James Perse where you can pick up great T-shirts. 45R, 169 Mercer St, NY 10012 (45r-usa.com). James Perse, 60 Mercer St, NY 10013 (+1212-334 3501; jamesperse.com). Opening Ceremony, 35 Howard St, NY 10013 (+1212-219 2688; openingceremony.com).

Gabriela Hearst “I stumbled upon Hixenbaugh Ancient Art gallery while wandering around Chelsea. It has Ancient Greek, Egyptian, Roman and pre-Columbian art and artefacts – some relatively accessible. I bought a wonderful gold Hellenistic earring from the third century BC. It looks so modern, I wear it a lot.” Hixenbaugh Ancient Art, 537A West 23rd St, NY 10011 (+1212-989 9743; hixenbaugh.net).

Erdem Moralioglu “Dashwood Books is a small store near the Bowery Hotel with the best selection of wonderful old and new books on photography. I often buy two copies of books I really like.” 33 Bond St, New York, NY 10012 (+1212-387 8520; dashwoodbooks.com).

Emilia Wickstead New York’s Upper East Side is home to some of my favourite stores. Michael’s Consignment and Encore are secondhand boutiques that have been there for more than 60 years – and, being where they are, they always have exceptionally high-quality clothes.
