High-end cruising with niche itineraries, whether up rivers or across oceans, is having a moment, with even the category’s big players getting in on the game. Silversea (silversea.com) has long excelled at this, with most ships sleeping fewer than 600 guests and world-class chefs aboard.

Its latest offering, set to launch in Trieste next summer (and already taking bookings), is Silver Moon (from £5,490 for 11 days), which is showcasing Silversea’s new SALT (Sea and Land Taste) programme, co-developed by New York-based gourmand extraordinaire and former Saveur editor-in-chief Adam Sachs. A SALT pilot itinerary earlier this year across southeast Asia featured a Balinese royal sharing ancient palace recipes and a stop in the Philippines to taste local specialities prepared by fishermen and their families.
