Four Seasons (fourseasons.com; from about €690) is arriving in Athens, where the site of the new Four Seasons Astir Palace is a 30-hectare plot on a lush forest-covered peninsula in Vouliagmeni, some 30 minutes’ drive south of the city centre.

The old building’s midcentury bones have been preserved, with private bungalows augmenting the total offering to 303 sleek, light wood and white marble-clad spaces that range in size and outlook but are uniformly contemporary. Three private beaches, a full spa and eight bars and restaurants round out the picture – essentially, the ultra-sleek beach resort that Greece’s capital has long wanted.
