Private islands and the Maldives: they seem to go increasingly together, and the demand for them shows little sign of waning. The latest to enter the stakes, opened in late 2018, showcases some laudable and unique features: besides uninterrupted sea views from all of its 15 villas, Kudadoo (kudadoo.com; from $3,800 all-inclusive, based on two sharing), floating in the northern Lhaviyani Atoll and measuring just 200m wide, harbours – discreetly – almost 1,000 solar panels, which can power the island entirely when necessary. There are also private motor yachts; a culinary programme that lets you dine at 3am should you wish to; and a house reef with, given the devastating effects of 2015-2016’s El Niño, a surprising abundance of life and colour.
