Deep in the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee, one of the US’s great family-owned resorts – a foodie mecca for big-ticket chefs and garden-variety gourmands alike – has a dynamic new sibling. Blackberry Mountain (blackberrymountain.com; from $995) sits just seven miles from the mother ship, Blackberry Farm (blackberryfarm.com; from $995), and offers both a more elemental and contemporary take on the indulgent surrounds and haut-gourmand experiences the Beall family have been purveying for years. And a wilder one too: 2,800 of this property’s 5,200 acres have been given over to conservation, with a cool new observation deck from which to admire it. But food is the Bealls’ thing and it’s certain to wow – particularly at the Firetower, atop the mountain itself, where simple, produce-driven plates will be served in a smartly renovated, historic US Forest Service site.
