A New Forest New Year beckons at the five-star Chewton Glen country house hotel, which is organising a two-night experience (from £2,980 per Garden Room), from December 31 to January 2, promising roaring fires, fine cuisine and spirited rounds of Auld Lang Syne.
The hotel will host a black-tie five-course feast, accompanied by champagne and bagpipes, to see in the New Year in style. Guests will be seated for a starter of pumpkin velouté with a hint of parmesan, followed by a choice of either hand-dived scallops with a celeriac puree, pickled dulse and salsa verde butter; or a pressing of duck liver with Sauternes and a toasted brioche. The next course is Gigha halibut with buttered iceberg and crab, Wiltshire truffle butter and caviar, and there are two choices of mains: Creedy Carver duck with sweet and sour grapefruit or loin of lamb with crisp sweetbread, broccoli and toasted almond. Dessert is caramelised crème fraîche tart with champagne and orange zest, followed by a cheese buffet finale, complemented by coffee and bonbons before the final countdown to midnight.
